India is just one giant zoo full of 3 main animals; cows, dogs, and monkeys. You can find them anywhere and everywhere. They don’t harm you unless you harm them and are really cute but mysterious creatures…
My favorite ones are the monkeys. They are stunning to watch, and have an amazing grip. We went to the Kasar Devi temple (covered in another post) and the monkey family kept going in and out of the temple. In my favorite temple, the Chittai temple, which is filled with bells, monkeys pulled on the bells and all of them fell. A person had a dunda (scary stick) and kept spanking the monkey. It was so terrifying to see.😦😭🫣 The funniest part was when the monkey wanted rice so she/he climbed a statue where a deva/devi had tika (a blessing mark made with turmeric, pitia, and rice) so ate the rice off!!!
Next is cows. The cows are big, and a lot of bulls are also there. They do not harm you unless you scare them. You can find them eating grass or just roaming around town.
Finally is the dog. The dogs are big, homeless, strays. They are everywhere. One big rule is not to look at them or they will follow you around. They are aggressive too. Today we were in Jageshwar, and I saw three dogs fighting and trying to kill each other. The other dogs must’ve sneaked in their territory. The dog was limping in the end.😥
