Today, I read a great book called Payback on Poplar Lane. I definitely recommend this 320 page novel! It is about a quiet, invisible girl named Rachel, and her neighbor Peter, who both compete for business success. At first, Rachel wants to be seen, so she becomes an intern at Peter Presents Inc, where she helps in fake fortune telling. She increases sales by 33%, but she is not known or praised. She quits and begins her own business which becomes the neighborhood destination for rare stones. But after she is accused of fraud, she might not be able to get back up! Read the book to find out more!
This book is good for 11 year old kids who enjoy long, exciting books. I love how Mincks used a lot of description about each character and their family backgrounds. She also did first person, but switched characters on each chapter. It also gives kids ideas for business. It was a very humorous book! I am very excited to read ‘President of Poplar Lane’, another book set on Poplar Lane!
This book also teaches you a lot of business/ friendship skills such as:
Life isn’t just about money. All your friends don’t have to be your employees. That is a thing everyone will need when they grow up. Do not underestimate people who seem weak. Rachel was underestimated by Peter, but she created her own stone empire! You also need to treat everyone around you kindly. That’s the only way people would want to be your friend. Make original ideas. Do not copy other people just because they are doing well. Do not commit fraud. You might get sued! Do not lie, because Rachel lied to her best friend and ruined her birthday party.
Well, this is a really great book, so you should definitely read it if you love business, drama, and books!
