This summer, I went to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming and Montana. It was actually the first national park in the whole world!
Me and my parents took a plane to Salt Lake City in Utah, and then drove to Yellowstone. Our first stop was around West Yellowstone. There was an area where Yellowstone gave a habitat to bears and wolves. The bears had some grass area, a tiny pond, and a big canyon-like stone. They were not acting harmful, but still looked deadly!
The WOW spot to Find Animals
Lamar Valley was exceptional from the rest. I saw A LOT of bison, which are not that common in other parts of Yellowstone. The bison were rolling around in the grass, and they looked SO CUTE!!! But they are very dangerous.
While we were driving, a lot of people were huddled up in an area. We went to see what it was, and everyone had these huge binocular machines. Half telescope, half binocular! They said that they saw some foxes and wolves. I was so eager to see them, and they let me use the telescopes. It was so clear!!! Wolves and foxes are rare sights, so I would consider myself lucky.
Summer doesn’t mean hot…
I experienced HEAVY HAIL.
We were at a hot springs site, and all of a sudden, heavy hail joined us along. I was scared, so I ran to the car as fast as possible. It lasted for 30 minutes, and since the cars was in the parking lot, it was dangerous. It was fun, but goosebumps scary!!!
The rest of the trip was cold, but the afternoon gets hot, so bring a sweater, hoodie, jacket, and fleece with you!
Geothermal Features
You must’ve heard of Old Faithful Geyser, or Prismatic Geyser. Well, I got to see them! Old Faithful erupts hot, steaming water about every 90 minutes. It was huge! It lasted 5 whole minutes. We went to Prismatic in the morning, and it was foggy. But a hiking trail led us to a viewpoint where we could see SO MANY COLORS!!!!!
Another cool thing was the mud pools. Hot, bubbling mud in pools! There was a whole trail of mud pools! And some geothermal features smelled like ROTTEN EGGS. My dad told me that it was sulfur, and that sulfur is also in eggs. My mom said it smelled AMZING, but I almost threw up!
