YUM!
Gulab Jamun; chewy, sweet, sugary, squishy, GREATNESS!!! Gulab jamun is a traditional Indian sweet, which consists of dough balls fried and dipped into a sugary sauce. Ask as many Indians if they like it, and they won’t like it; they’ll love it!
So I first made it to my Naani’s house on December 18, 2023. She taught me the whole handmade traditional process, which leaves you with a delicious sphere of sugary deliciousness.
Ingredients
- 3 1/2 glasses of water
- 2 glasses of white granulated sugar
- 4-5 pinches cardamom
- 500 grams mava/ khoya
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tablespoon baking powder
Instructions
- Boil water and drop cardamom into water while boiling
- After boiling, mix sugar into the water and set aside, keeping it warm
- Grind or mix water and khoya/ mava in a blender to create a paste
- In a separate bowl, mix flour and baking powder
- Mix half of the paste into the dry ingredients, and make a non-sticky dough
- Drop in the rest of the paste and mix again to create the non-stick dough
- Make small dough balls and turn on the oil (big balls will lead to bursting)
- In the oil, carefully drop 8-9 balls into the oil. Heat until a brown crust is formed
- Repeat step 8. Rest the balls in a seperate plate (they will be hard)
- After all are made, place them in the liquid sauce and serve!
I tasted my bite this morning, and it just melted in my mouth. What I love about this recipe is that you don’t have to do any overnight preparations, and the instructions are simply simple to understand. ( I wrote the process in a notebook while cooking; don’t ask.)
